Patterns
As mathematics is the language of science, patterns and composition are the language of photography. Some images are not so notable for where they take us or what they represent, as they are for the arrangement of parts that make up the whole. Nature is full of these patterns and so is the built environment. We can't really call them still lives -- for there is no conscious meaning in their makeup. Yet somehow they speak to us. Some please us with their symetry -- while others hold us by their very seeming randomness. Stark light and shadow, intermingled color, well defined, amorphous -- they fit a visual field whose satisfactions lie beneath meaning.
